Mayodan Loose Leaf Collection

OCTOBER 19, 2017:

Loose leaf collection will begin Monday, October 30th and run through the end of January

The Route will begin on 13th Avenue and move down through the Avenues to 1st Avenue (West to East). The route then continues on Roosevelt Street up to Wilkins Street (South to North). the route finishes on Ayersville and Turner roads, and the side streets. The crew will make 3 complete passes through Town.

Please DO NOT place branches, sticks, grass or other trash in your leaf piles – we use a vacuum system and can not pick up leaves with brush or other materials. Grass clippings must be bagged all year round.

Also, we can not pick up leaves under or near vehicles parked on the street. Leaves should be raked to the back of the curb and not put in the street. Leaves in the street can lead to street flooding during heavy rain events.

Look for the signs below to let you know when we are close to your property. Updates will also be posted on social media and website.

Water Line Valve Replacement Scheduled

Mayodan Public Utilities Department is planning water line valve replacement work for Wednesday, August 2, 2017 on Main Street in the Downtown area. The work has been scheduled to take place at night to avoid cutting water to the businesses during regular business hours on Main Street and 2nd Ave. The work is scheduled to begin at 11:00 PM and will finish before 5:00 AM. Affected customers are being contacted, but due to the nature of the work, it is possible that water service will be disrupted for customers along Main Street from 4th Ave to 1st Ave. and customers along 2nd Ave. from Adams to Jefferson Streets. Customers on East Adams may also be affected. We recommend that you run cold water through an outside faucet or bath tub for a few minutes to clear any dingy water from the lines Thursday morning.

We regret the inconvenience this may cause, but the work is necessary and is part of our ongoing efforts to improve and replace our water infrastructure throughout Mayodan.

Please be careful driving downtown Wednesday night, there may be temporary road closures as the work takes place.

Fiscal Year 2017-18 Budget Adopted by Town Council

June 21, 2017
RE: Fiscal Year 2017-18 Budget Adoption

The Town Council of the Town of Mayodan adopted the Fiscal Year 2017-18 budget ordinance during their regularly scheduled monthly meeting held Monday, June 12.

The manager’s budget was presented to the Council May 26, 2017 and made available to the public. The adopted budget is posted on the Town’s website and social media sites, a copy is available at Town Hall, and official notice of the public hearing was published in the News and Record.

After the public hearing held June 12, at which no one spoke for or against the budget, the Town Council voted 3-1 to approve the budget as presented.

The adopted budget includes a property tax rate of $0.63 per $100 of valuation, which is unchanged from last year. In addition, the solid waste fee remains unchanged from last year at $12 per month residential household, $24 per commercial account. The adopted budget includes a 5% water and sewer rate increase. This increase is equal to 0.22 cents per thousand gallons of usage. This rate change will apply to all billing cycles after July 1, 2017.

For in-town customers the new rate per 1,000 gallons of usage (water or sewer) is $4.56. The minimum bill for two months will increase $1.62 to $31.92 for water and sewer. Out-of-town customers pay double the rate of in-town customers.

Questions regarding the adopted budget may be directed to Michael Brandt, Town Manager at (336) 427-0241.

Proposed FY 2018 Budget Available For Review

The Town Manager’s Fiscal Year 2018 budget has been submitted to the Mayor and Town Council.  A copy is available here for review and downloading; there is also a copy available at Town Hall for public inspection.

The proposed budget keeps the property tax rate steady at $0.63 per one hundred dollars of valuation. An owner of a property valued at $100,000 will pay $630 in property taxes, the same as last year.

Solid waste and recycling fees will remain $12.00 per month for residential customers and $24 month for commercial customers.

Due to increasing costs of production and capital maintenance of the water and sewer infrastructure the budget recommends a modest 5% increase in water and sewer fees. The new rate per 1,000 gallons of usage (water or sewer) will be $4.56 or 22-cents more than the current rate. The minimum bill for 3,500 gallons of water and 3,500 gallons sewer will be $31.92, or $1.54 more per billing cycle. Out-of-town customer rates will be double the in-town rate. If adopted, the new rates will be effective July 1, 2017.

A Public Hearing on the budget will be held at next regular Town Council Meeting scheduled for:
June 12, 7:00 pm
Mayodan Town Council Chambers
James A. Collins Municipal Building (Town Hall)

210 West Main Street
Mayodan, NC 27027

Notice regarding “free” county-wide landfill week

The Town of Mayodan no longer participates in the county-wide “Free” Landfill Week because our work crews pick-up bulk items and brush every week.

Residents may chose to take materials on their own to the landfill the week of April 24-29th free of charge; but if you place more than 7 cubic feet of bulk items or brush at the street you will be charged extra for pick-up.

The Town will pick-up up to 7 cubic yards of brush or bulk items – NOT extra trash bags – every week as part of your solid waste services. We also pick-up bagged grass clippings and leaves (clear plastic bags, preferred). Bulk items are items that are unusual in shape or size and can not fit in the cart. Bulk items are not extra trash bags or debris that will not fit in your cart because it is full.

Seven cubic yards is the equivalent of a small pick-up truck load. Any more than that amount will be billed based on the amount of debris. Brush or trees that are cut by a private company are the responsibility of the company to remove. You can download a brochure here (they are also available at Town Hall) explaining our solid waste policies, or you may call Town Hall (336) 427-0241 for questions.

4th Avenue Water Line Work Beginning

The Town Council approved the replacement of the water line running in 4th Avenue from Washington Street north to Jackson Street, then turning down Jackson to 2nd Avenue. This work will replace 50+ years-old pipe with new ductile iron pipe. The work is expected to take four months and will begin the first week of March. Every effort will be made to not cause service disruptions to affected residents.

Once 4th Avenue is finished another smaller water line replacement project will occur on 9th Avenue. from Main Street to Monroe. After that project is finished both areas will be repaved.

Water line break N. 9th Ave between Main and Jefferson Street

January 29, 2017: A water line break has occurred on N. 9th Avenue between Main and Jefferson Streets. Customers in the area may have disruptions in service during repairs.

If your water is cut off during repairs we recommend that you flush your pipes after service is restored through your cold water tap in a tub or outside faucet for a few minutes to clear any sand or debris that may settle in the line.
