Winter Weather Advisory

Friday, January 6, 2017

Rockingham County is under a winter storm warning Friday evening through Saturday night. Expected accumulations of 3-6 inches of snow are being predicted. NC DOT crews are responsible for state roads (2nd Ave, NC 135, Washington Street, West Main Street, Ayersville Road, and Turner road). Town crews are responsible for the local paved streets and avenues. Today, town crews will be spreading salt. Crews will begin plowing after the snow begins tapering off tomorrow morning. There needs to be at least 3-4 inches of snow for the plows to be effective. Crews will plow and salt as needed.

In order to make it more efficient and safer for the town crews to plow the streets please remove vehicles from public streets if possible. This includes downtown parking spaces.

Very cold temperatures are expected Saturday – Monday night with little melting during the day. Crews will salt and plow as necessary Sunday and Monday. Please take appropriate precautions with internal plumbing to prevent frozen pipes.

Halloween Trick or Treating date in Mayodan

The Town of Mayodan does not set the date of trick-or-treating. Traditionally, children trick-or-treat on October 31st, which is Monday this year. Please be careful driving this Monday night-as there will be ghosts, goblins, super heroes, princesses, and other scary, funny, or cute little ones walking the streets.

For those trick-or-treating- please be respectful of yards and flower beds – keep to sidewalks and driveways; only visit homes with porch lights on; make sure costumes have reflective tape or other safety material or carry a flashlight to help drivers see everyone better.

Remember to have fun – and use common sense –
