BILLING/COLLECTIONS CLERK POSITION
The Town of Mayodan seeks an experienced individual to serve as Billing/Collections Clerk, performing clerical work related to the billing and collection of utility payments and other city revenues. The work is characterized by public contact and responsibility for accuracy in utilizing billing software to prepare utility billing for customers and in receiving payments, balancing, and making deposits to the banking institution. A high level of mathematical skills is utilized to be successful in the position. The employee answers phones and also interacts with customers in the office. Strong verbal and written communication skills, tact and courtesy are required in frequent contact with the public. The employee’s duties will include educating citizens on solid waste and recycling practices and regulations; maintenance of cemetery records and preparing deeds. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel and the ability to learn proprietary billing software is a must. The operation of data entry equipment, computers, and various office machines is required. The ability to collect and count money accurately and prepare accurate receipts and reports will be essential to the job. The successful candidate will need to have the ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
Experience in municipal or county government is desirable. Experience and education with accounting and billing/collections operations preferred. High School diploma and possession of a valid state issued driver’s license are required. The successful applicant must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen. Salary range begins at $23,891.99; however, salary may be commensurate with experience and education.
