For the ultimate outdoor fun, the Mayo River offers the most challenging rapids in the county a few miles upstream from Mayodan at the “Boiling Hole.” From there, the river gets a little more tame with class I and II runs. There are put-in and take-out points near the Boiling Hole, just outside Mayo River State Park and a little south of downtown Mayodan. The Mayo joins the Dan River a mile south. Farris Memorial Park has lots of space for a good cardio workout, just around the grounds, and it also features a wooded nature trail about a mile long. Mayo River State Park has a trail at Dezashio Mills a few miles north of Mayodan and other trails at Mayo Mountain Access just 5 minutes north of Mayodan. Zoom the map out to see nearby trails.

Farris Memorial Park features a driving range and miniature golf. Dan Valley Golf Club offers 18 holes of challenging golf for all skill levels. The small and complex greens are the character of the course and can be tough on even the best of short games. Deep Springs Golf & Country Club is a 18 hole private course.
