River

For the ultimate outdoor fun, the Mayo River offers the most challenging rapids in the county a few miles upstream from Mayodan at the “Boiling Hole.” From there, the river gets a little more tame with class I and II runs. There are put-in and take-out points near the Boiling Hole, just outside Mayo River State Park and a little south of downtown Mayodan. The Mayo joins the Dan River a mile south.
