The Town Council approved an increase in water/sewer rates for fiscal year 2019-2020 at the meeting and public hearing to approve the budget held June 10, 2019. The Town Tax Rate will remain the same as last year at .63 cents per $100 of valuation.
The water/sewer fund is an enterprise fund and revenues from that fund must cover costs of operating the municipal water and sewer treatment, production, delivery of services, and the costs of repair and maintenance of buildings, equipment, facilities, testing, and infrastructure. State regulations, costs of repair and replacement of infrastructure, permitting and testing fees, and equipment costs are continuing to rise. Revenues from tax dollars cannot be expended for the cost of production and distribution of water and sewer. To counter those costs, the adjustment of water/sewer rates is imperative to meet demands.
The increase beginning with the August 30th billing to inside residential customers and the July 30th billing to inside industrial customers will reflect $0.75 cents increase per 1,000 gallons of treated water and $0.75 cents per 1,000 gallons of treated sewer. Rates for outside town customers are double the inside rate.
Individuals paying the minimum usage of 3,500 gallons per two months will see an increase in their minimum bill from $36.76 to $42.00 or $5.24 per two months ($2.62 per month).
Solid waste charges will remain the same.
