Understanding Mayodan's Budget

The Town of Mayodan develops an annual budget to guide how tax dollars and other revenues are spent to provide services for residents. The budget acts as both a financial plan and a work plan, ensuring that the town can meet community needs while planning responsibly for the future.

Where the Money Comes From

Mayodan’s revenues come from a combination of:

  • Property Taxes – the primary source of local funding.
  • Sales Tax Revenues – a portion of county and state sales tax distributed back to the town.
  • Utility Fees – water and sewer service charges.
  • Grants & State/Federal Aid – funding for special projects such as parks, infrastructure, and public safety.

Fiscal Responsibility

Mayodan is committed to maintaining a strong fund balance and making responsible investments in infrastructure and community improvements. Each budget cycle balances the need for high-quality services with keeping the town affordable for residents.

Resident Involvement

Public input is an important part of the budget process. Each spring, residents are encouraged to share feedback during council meetings and public hearings. This helps ensure the budget reflects the priorities of our community.
