The Mayodan Police Department is dedicated to protecting the safety, security, and well-being of all who live, work, and visit our community. Our officers serve with professionalism, integrity, and respect, upholding the values of fairness and community partnership in every interaction.

We provide 24-hour law enforcement services, responding to emergencies, deterring crime, and supporting a safe environment where citizens can thrive. The department also emphasizes community policing—building strong relationships with residents, businesses, and visitors through outreach, education, and proactive problem-solving.

In addition to traditional law enforcement duties, the department works closely with schools, civic groups, and regional partners to promote public safety initiatives, from traffic enforcement and crime prevention to youth engagement and community events.

Safe Room

The Mayodan Police Department maintains a designated Safe Space that is available to the public at all times. This location is intended to provide a secure environment for individuals who need immediate separation from another person or who require a place of safety. The Safe Space is monitored and equipped with a dedicated phone that connects directly to 911. Upon activation of the phone, an officer will be dispatched to the location to render assistance. This resource is provided to ensure the continued safety and well-being of all members of our community.

Golf Cart Registration Information:

To keep everyone safe, the Town of Mayodan has established rules and regulations for operating golf carts on public streets. Golf carts are permitted, but only with a valid permit issued annually by the Mayodan Police Department. The permit costs $35 per year, requires an inspection, and must be displayed on the cart. Operators are also required to maintain liability insurance with a minimum coverage of $50,000.

Key rules include:

  • Electric carts only, with a maximum speed of 25 mph.
  • Licensed drivers only may operate golf carts.
  • Carts may only be driven during daylight hours on streets with speed limits of 35 mph or less (excluding satellite annexed areas).
  • Carts must be equipped with headlights, brake lights, and rearview mirrors.
  • Traffic laws apply—drivers must obey stop signs, traffic signals, and right-of-way rules just like any other vehicle.
  • Occupancy is limited to the number of seats available, and children must remain properly seated while in motion.
  • No standing passengers, towing, or sidewalk driving is allowed.
  • Parking in handicap spaces requires a valid handicap permit.

Failure to follow these regulations can result in fines, loss of permit, or both. Enforcement is handled by the Mayodan Police Department, and repeated violations may result in revoked privileges.

Golf carts are a unique way to experience all that Mayodan has to offer—whether heading to a park, visiting neighbors, or enjoying the town’s vibrant community life. By following the rules, residents and visitors alike can enjoy the convenience of golf cart travel while keeping our streets safe for everyone.
